Obituary of John Sawitzki Jr.

John W. Sawitzki Jr.,71, of Willimantic, CT passed away Wednesday, November 11, 2020. Born in New York, and raised in Queens, he was the son of the late John and Nancy Storoshko Sawitzki, natives of Nanticoke. In 1968, John enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served during the Vietnam era. He was honorably discharged in 1972 having attained the rank of Petty Officer 2nd class and received the National Defense Service Medal and Meritorious Unit Commendation Ribbon. He received his education at the University of Connecticut, earning a B.S. degree in Business Administration as well as M.B.A. with a concentration in finance and accounting. Early in his career he worked as a consultant with the Small Business Institute, Storrs, CT, and the Small Business Administration and as a territory representative for the Burroughs Corporation, Bridgeport. For most of his career, he was an Instructor and Visiting Instructor in Residence at the University of Connecticut School of Business Administration and the M.B.A. program. He is survived by numerous cousins, including, Christine Ferrato (John), Joanne Kawczenski (Brian) and Mary Hastings (Todd), who live locally, and many close friends in Connecticut. Panachyda will be Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. from Davis-Dinelli Funeral Home, 170 E. Broad Street, Nanticoke led by the Rev. Walter Pasicznyk, pastor of Holy Transfiguration of Our Lord Ukrainian Catholic Church, Hanover section of Nanticoke. Viewing and visitation will be at the funeral home, Tuesday morning after 10:30 a.m. Interment with military honors will be in Holy Transfiguration Cemetery, Nanticoke.
