Obituary of Yvonne Bozinski
Please share a memory of Yvonne to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Yvonne Bozinski of Nanticoke passed away peacefully early Monday morning, October 24, 2022,
following an illness.
Yvonne always said she had an amazing life, and her family and friends lovingly attest to that. At a time
when few women considered college, she moved to Philadelphia and earned a Bachelor of Science
degree in Nursing from the University of Pennsylvania. On Summer break she would pursue her other
passion: theatre. She performed in Summer Stock in venues like the Pocono Playhouse.
Then it was on to New York, where she worked in nursing and earned her master’s degree in Public
Administration from New York University. She went on to work in administrative positions at Little
Flower/5th Avenue and St. Luke’s/Roosevelt Hospitals. But there was still theatre; she studied with Lee
Strasberg at the Actor’s Studio and performed in several off-Broadway plays.
Eventually she returned to Nanticoke and taught Practical Nursing at the Wilkes-Barre Area Career and
Technical Center. She spent her off time working in promotions at Pocono Downs and Split Rock Lodge.
She then accepted a position as Senior Director of Medical Management at Blue Cross of Northeastern
Pennsylvania from which she retired.
She became engaged in her community; she ran and was the first woman elected to Nanticoke City
Council, serving two terms. She was also elected as an Al Gore delegate to the 2000 Democratic National
Convention in Los Angeles. She served on the Luzerne County Commission for Women, the Board of
Directors of the Wilkes-Barre YMCA and the Hospital and Education Authority. Most recently she deeply
enjoyed supporting the Circle Centre for the Arts and taking part in events and dramatic readings during
Sunday at the Circle. She relished the Friday morning breakfasts with the new friends she made there.
Yvonne was preceded in death by her parents, Sylvester and Anna (Andrysick) Bozinski, and her “big
brother,” Sylvester “Stretch” Bozinski, who always called her “his kid sister.”
She is survived by her sister, Theresa Jezewski and her niece, Julie Jezewski; her niece, Kathy Bozinski,
who adored her; her nephew, Glenn Bozinski, his wife, Laura and their daughter, Madalyn; her nephew,
Michael Jezewski, his wife, Carol and their son, William; and her godchild, Rachel Hanna. She is also
survived by her dearest friends, Alma Berlot and Cathy Stitzer.
Funeral Services will begin Monday at 10:30 from Dinelli Family Funeral Home, 170 E. Broad Street
Nanticoke with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Faustina Kowalska Parish, 520 S. Hanover
Street, Nanticoke. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hanover Township.
Friends may call for viewing and visitation hours Sunday from 2 – 4 p.m. at the funeral home.
If you knew Yvonne, please take a moment to toast to her incredible personality and life. A Manhattan,
with extra cherry juice, lovingly suggested.
