Kathleen R. (Kathy) Gibson, 70, of Shickshinny went home to be with the Lord Monday, December 26, 2022 at Geisinger Wyoming Valley.

Born November 4, 1952 in Rose Hill, Onondaga County, NY, she was the daughter of the late Rev. Robert and Shirley (DeRemer) Whitney. She resided in several areas of New York State and many states on the East Coast, where her father, a Baptist minister, pastored churches and taught at Christian schools. She graduated from Marcellus Central High School, Marcellus, NY, class of 1971.

She married Patrick Gibson on February 11, 1984.

A graduate of Lackawanna Junior College, she earned an associate’s degree, and was employed as a medical transcriptionist for Allied Services John Heinz Rehabilitation Hospital, Wilkes-Barre for twenty years. She retired in 2014 due to medical issues.

Kathy was an active member of Nebo Baptist Church, Nanticoke. She served as a Sunday School teacher; was in the puppet ministry; and the praise team for many years. She also enjoyed bowling for many years and served as treasurer of the Christian Fellowship Bowling League.

She loved time spent with her family and adored her grandchildren. She especially loved the good times camping at Hickory Run State Park.

In addition to her husband, Pat, she is survived by her children; sons, Sean Gibson and wife, Becca; and Kevin Gibson and wife, Monica, all of Hunlock Creek; and daughter, Erin Kopko and husband, Tony, of Larksville; grandchildren; Jace Thomas Gibson and Tony Paul Kopko Jr.; and a brother, Timothy Whitney, Hanover Township.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday from Dinelli Family Funeral Home, 170 E. Broad Street, Nanticoke with the Rev. Jacob Claypoole, assistant pastor of Nebo Baptist Church, officiating.

Friends may call for viewing and visitation Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

Private interment will be in the Carverton Cemetery.
