Please share a memory of Rosalie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Rosalie E. Roote, 73, of Nanticoke passed away Wednesday afternoon, October 11, 2023, at her home following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Born September 2, 1950, and raised in the Buttonwood section of Hanover Township, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Helen Bolesta Chwastyk. Rosalie graduated from Hanover Memorial High School, Class of 1968. She later went on to earn an associate’s degree in Business Management from LCCC. She married her best friend, Clifford L. Roote, on August 23, 1969, and they were inseparable. They resided in Nanticoke for the past forty-seven years. In earlier years, Rosalie worked for Wilkes College and the law firm of Flannigan, Doran, Biscontini and Shaeffer, Wilkes-Barre; and for twenty years at First Eastern Bank Operation Center. She was last employed by the Social Security Administration, on East Mountain Blvd, retiring in 2016. Rosalie was an active member of Holy Trinity Church, currently St. Faustina Kowalska Parish, for many years, where she taught CCD (Faith Formation) as well as making pierogi and helping with fund raisers. Being a two-time cancer survivor, she participated in events with Candy’s Place and Camp Braveheart with fellow cancer survivors. Rosalie's world revolved around her family and she couldn't be more proud of being Allie Rose's 'Grammie'. Rosalie and Clifford never missed attending their granddaughters’ sporting events - Allie with gymnastics and softball, and Sara with softball. They were also active volunteers at Northwest Area schools, where their granddaughter Allie Rose attends. Rosalie was preceded in death by her sisters, Carol Conklin and Dolores Kropa; her brother, Joseph Chwastyk; and her niece, Cathy Hager. She will be deeply missed by her husband, Clifford, with whom she shared fifty-four years of marriage; her daughters, Denise Swartz and husband, Bob, of Sylvan Lake; and Angela Roote, of Hunlock Creek; granddaughters, Allie Rose Roote and Sara Swartz; brothers, Michael Chwastyk and wife, Faith; and Paul Chwastyk and wife, Dale, both of Camp Hill; an aunt, Helen Tanski, of Hanover Township; as well as nieces and nephews. She was the planner and the rock of her family, and she will be missed by everyone. To know Rosie was to love her. Her smile was infectious, and her kindness and generosity unmatched. She was always laughing and having a good time with family and friends, and loved having Aunt Helen by her side. She enjoyed traveling and cruising with family and her best friends. Her endless wisdom will never be forgotten. Always remember her favorite saying: “It is not what you are dealt, but how you deal with it!” Friends and family may call for viewing and visitation hours from 3 to 6 PM Sunday from Dinelli Family Funeral Home, 170 E. Broad Street, Nanticoke. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 AM Monday at St. Faustina Kowalska Parish, 520 S. Hanover Street, Nanticoke with the Rev. Brian F. Van Fossen, her pastor, as celebrant. Those attending the Funeral Mass are asked to go directly to the church Monday morning. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township.
