Joseph A. Olszewski Sr., 80, beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, and brother, of Nanticoke, passed away Sunday, December 10, 2023 following a long period of declining health.
Born in Nashville Tennessee on April 2, 1943, he was a son of the late Vera Wright Olszewski Ruzicki and Leonard Ruzicki. Growing up in Nanticoke, he graduated from Nanticoke High School in 1961. After graduation, he joined the army where he served in Germany for two and a half years.
Following his military service, he worked at Atwater Throwing Mill, Plymouth and later at Techneglas where he was an operator for 30 years. He retired in 2003 due to health issues.
Joseph belonged to the American Legion Post 350, Nanticoke.
He enjoyed the simple things in life, like watching old movies and westerns and spending time listening to music with his grandson, Cameron.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Alan Olszewski.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-six years Sandy Vollrath Olszewski, Nanticoke; children Corinne Hummel (Jeff), Weston; Joseph Olszewski Jr. (Jamie), Nanticoke; and Amanda Olszewski (John), Nanticoke; grandchildren Jared Hummel, Nanticoke; and Cameron Hummel, Weston; Sister-in-law, Sharon Burry and husband, Paul; and Brother-in-law, Charles Vollrath and wife, Ann Marie; and nieces and nephews.
A Blessing Service will be held 11 AM Wednesday from Dinelli Family Funeral Home, 170 E. Broad Street, Nanticoke with the Rev. James R. Nash, officiating.
Interment, with military honors, will follow in Oakdale Cemetery, Hunlock Township.
Viewing and visitation hours will be Wednesday from 9:30 AM until time of service at the funeral home.
