Mary E. Elmy, 80, of Slocum Township, passed away Monday, July 29, 2024 at Lehigh Valley Medical Center- Hazleton. She and her husband, Robert Emly were married on July 1, 1961, sharing 60 years of marriage until his death on August 15, 2021. Mary was born April 25, 1944 in Nanticoke, a daughter of the late John Leiby and Virginia George Leiby Rinehimer. A graduate of Bradford Beauty Academy, Mary enjoyed a long career as a hairdresser in Nanticoke and operated Mary Elmy’s Beauty Salon until retiring in 2009. Mary will be remembered for the special care she gave to her customers and friends, as well as her dedication to her faith and family. She was always there and ready to help whoever needed her. She would take her clients to their chemotherapy treatments and doctor’s appointments, even down to Philadelphia. She also rescued one of her clients from a fire. She was a member of Nebo Baptist Church, Nanticoke and more recently was attending St. Paul’s Lutheran church with her daughter, Brenda and family in Mountain Top. She would volunteer as much as possible at her church and for the women’s association. She was a member of the Orpheus Choral Society for many years. In addition to her parents, and husband, Bob, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Joshua Elmy; a sister, Elizabeth Brown Hower; and brothers, John, Robert, and Guy Leiby. She will be deeply missed by her children, Deborah Schwartz (Mark), Robert Elmy Jr. (Renee), Jeffrey Elmy (Terri), Glenn Elmy (Michelle) and Brenda Gugliotti (Bernard); grandchildren, Mary (Brad), Jeff (Laura), Brynn (Bob), Robby, Marissa, Bernard Jr. (Jenna), Virginia and Zachary; and a great grandson, Bryce; a brother, Thomas Leiby (Helena); a sister-in-law, Jean Fuller; as well as several nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held 3 p.m. Monday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 316 South Mountain Boulevard, Mountain Top, with the Rev. Michele D. Kaufman, officiating. Friends and family may call from 2 p.m. until the time of the service Monday at the church. Arrangements are in the care of Dinelli Family Funeral Home, 170 E. Broad Street, Nanticoke.
