Melania Kropiewnicki, 94, of the Sheatown section of Newport Township, passed away Friday, November 22, 2024 at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Wilkes Barre, following a brief illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, John F. Kropiewnicki, with whom she shared 40 years of marriage until his passing on June 3, 1998. Born May 19, 1930 in Wanamie, she was a daughter of the late Stanislaw and Stefania Pawlush Yaniga. Melania was a graduate of Newport Township High School, class of 1948. The most important part of her life was her family and she will forever be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great- grandmother. She will also be fondly remembered for raising African violets, her love of sweets, making pierogi, and trips to the casino in her spare time. She was a member of St. Faustina Kowalska parish, Nanticoke and the former Holy Child Church, Sheatown for most of her life where she was active in the Christian Mothers. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers; Albin, Edward, Alex, and Chester Yaniga, and her sister; Stasia Dutzar. Surviving are her sons, John Kropiewnicki and his wife, Deborah, of Alden, Allen Kropiewnicki, with whom she resided, and Jamie Kropiewnicki and his wife, Christine, of Sheatown; grandchildren, Heather Jones (James), Christopher, and Isabella; a great-granddaughter, Gracie; sister-in-law, Tozia Yaniga; as well several nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 11 a.m. at St. Faustina Kowalska Parish, 520 S. Hanover Street, Nanticoke. Those attending the funeral mass are asked to go directly to the church Wednesday morning. Interment will follow in St. Adalbert’s Cemtery, Glen Lyon. There will be no public viewing or visitation hours. Funeral Arrangements are in the care of Dinelli Family Funeral Home, 170 E. Broad Street, Nanticoke.
