Obituary of Merlyn Fletcher
Please share a memory of Merlyn to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Merlyn John (Murph) Fletcher, 92, of Wanamie, passed away March 12, 2025, at the home of his daughter, Kathleen, in Bethlehem, where he resided since November.
Born April 21, 1932, he was a son of the late Edward and Mary Graboske Fletcher.
Murph was a former member of Zion Evangelical Church, Nanticoke.
Murph graduated from Nanticoke High School in 1951, where he was a drummer in the marching band. He enjoyed playing drums in a few local bands, and playing at dances. He raced stock cars at the Evergreen, and Nazareth speedways. He was very proud to say that he attended Penn State for Drafting.
After high school, he worked at Columbia Records as a record presser. He worked in insurance sales, and at Foster Wheeler, until he began a long career at Procter and Gamble, Mehoopany as a papermaker on paper machine #4. He was facilitator at Northern Tier Industries and Education Consortium, school to work program, where he traveled with Proctor and Gamble. He retired in 1993 after 25 years of employment with the company. Retirement didn’t slow him down; he along with his daughter Erin, ran The Summer Fun program, under the (NTCO) Newport Township Community Organization and was on the Community Advisory Board. His last, but not minor accomplishment, was working at Mohegan Sun Arena as an usher and at hockey games, where he was fondly known as “Murph the Dancing Usher”.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step brothers, Donald Fletcher and Edward Fletcher Jr.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, the former, Barbara Rinehamer; daughters, Kathleen Fletcher and her husband, David Dickshinski, in Bethlehem; Erin Fletcher, in Hunlock Creek; grandson, David Burgess and Mikeal, and great grandson Bjorn Burgess of Delaware, Ohio; grandson Sean Burgess and Rachel, of Clarks Summit, great granddaughter, Eleanor Grace Burgess; a sister, Kay (Kathryn) Schultz and her husband, Allen, of Glendora, California, niece, Suzy, nephew Scotty; sister-In-Law, Zeda, of Florida, niece Sherry Novak, of Freeland, PA; and niece HopeAnn Fletcher, California.
We will miss our greeting: “jak się masz?”; response “dobrze nieźle”. He always had a smile.
Private services will be held with interment beside his mother in Edgehill Cemetery, West Nanticoke. Chaplain Stephanie Jones of Advanced Home Health and Hospice of the Lehigh Valley, will officiate.
There will be no public viewing or calling hours.
Arrangements are in the care of Dinelli Family Funeral Home, Nanticoke.
