Gale A. Richards, 75, of the Korn Krest section of Hanover Township, passed away on May 6, 2025 at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
Born February 12, 1950, in Wilkes-Barre Township, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Hannah Morgan Miller.
Gale was a 1969 graduate of St. Nick’s High School, Wilkes-Barre. After high school, she furthered her education at Luzerne County Community College where she earned an associate’s degree in their nursing program.
Gale was a hard-worker with a drive to succeed. She began her nursing career as a nurse’s aide and later became a registered nurse. She was employed locally at Retreat State Hospital, Geisinger Wyoming Valley Hospital, when they first opened, the VA Hospital , and several local nursing homes. In Lancaster, she served as Director of Nursing at several nursing homes, worked her way up to a corporate nurse for ManorCare, and her final position before retiring to Hanover Township was as a nursing manager at Conestoga Valley.
She was a fiercely strong, independent woman with a kind, loving heart. She also had a wicked sense of humor. Gale loved her grandchildren, and enjoyed spending time with them. She was an avid dog lover who enjoyed reading, playing scrabble, bird watching, and visiting flea markets
Gale was a former member of the United Methodist Church, Nanticoke, and acquired the rank of Worthy Matron for the Order of the Eastern Star, Nanticoke.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Miller and his wife, Martha; her sister, Mary Horan and her husband, Raymond; and her brother-in-law, Donald Makowski.
She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, William Richards Jr.; her sons; William Richards III and his wife, Dr. Maria Richards, Morgan Richards and his wife, Dr. Melanie Richards; daughter, Carrie Richards; grandchildren, Alexandra, William IV, Caden, Jasper, Arlan, Penny, and Gus; sister, Jackie Makowski; niece, Tara Makowski; great nephew, Michael Makowski and his wife, Theresa; great-great niece, Harper Makowski; several cousins; and her fur grandkids Benny and Lily.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, July 12 at 11 a.m. at Dinelli Family Funeral Home, 170 East Broad Street, Nanticoke with the Rev. Roger C. Noss Jr., officiating.
Visitation hours will be 9 a.m. until the time of the service.
