Harold J. Vandermark Obituary

Harold J. Vandermark, 85, of Wanamie passed away Monday, August 11, 2025 at Geisinger Wyoming Valley following a period of declining health.


Born at home in Wanamie, he was a son of the late Howard and Gertrude Finley Vandermark. After attending the Newport Township schools, he enlisted with the U.S. Army serving with the 101st Airborne Division, Company E, 1st Airborne Battle Group, 501st Infantry, Ft. Campbell, Kentucky. He served three years and was honorably discharged in February, 1961 with the rank of PFC.


Early in life, Harold worked in the Wanamie mines as well as for Biscontini Coal Company. He later worked for many years at Independent Explosives, Avoca, until retiring.


He was a member of St. Faustina Kowalska parish, Nanticoke and previously belonged to St. Francis of Assisi Church. Harold enjoyed traveling and playing cards in his spare time.


In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, the former Lee Belles; a brother, Bill Vandermark; and a sister, Eileen Ferlick and her husband, Bob.


Surviving is his brother, Edward Vandermark and wife, Rose Dante, of Berwick; a sister-in-law, Gloria Vandermark, New Jersey; Step daughter, Diane Ogin; as well as nieces, nephews and numerous cousins.


A Blessing Service will be Monday, August 18th, at 11a.m. from Dinelli Family Funeral Home, 170 E. Broad Street, Nanticoke. Military honors will be accorded by the U.S. Army.


Viewing and visitation will be at the funeral home Monday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service.


Private interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Wanamie.
