Joseph P. "Joey" Day Jr. Obituary

Joseph “Joey” Patrick Day Jr, 22, of Nanticoke, Pennsylvania, passed away October 3rd 2025, surrounded by his loving family after a courageous five-year battle with leukemia.


Born February 26, 2003, in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, he was a 2021 graduate of Greater Nanticoke Area High School and attended Luzerne County Community College, where he continued to pursue his education with the same determination and optimism that defined his life.


Joey will be remembered for his athleticism, infectious happiness, and kind, courageous spirit. He had a natural talent for building and creativity, often spending hours constructing intricate LEGO sets or gaming with friends. When he wasn’t busy creating, Joey found peace in taking long walks and staying active always with a quiet strength and a smile that lifted those around him. Joey’s courage and resilience throughout his illness continue to inspire all who knew him. His strength, humor, and warmth left an enduring mark on the hearts of family and friends alike.


Joey shared an unbreakable bond with his friends, who became an extended part of his family. Whether it was through school, sports, or countless late-night gaming sessions, Joey had a way of making everyone feel valued and included. His humor, loyalty, and compassion left a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. His friends remember him as someone who could light up a room, offer a listening ear, and bring laughter even in difficult times.


He was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Helen Ruth Day, and his maternal aunt, Jenifer Lou Oliver-Jahnke.


He is survived by Father, Joseph Day of Nanticoke, Mother, Christy Day-Clarke of Cornwall Ct, and stepfather, Daniel Clarke of Cornwall Ct. Brother, Thomas Day of Kingston, sister, Courtney Day of Nanticoke, and brother, Andrew Day of Nanticoke. Paternal grandparents, Edward Day Jr and his wife Zoia Day of Stroudsburg, maternal grandparents, Ronald and Cathy Oliver of Harvey’s Lake. As well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.


Joey will also be fondly remembered for his love of Sparky, the family’s loyal dog and constant companion.


A viewing and visitation will be held at Dinelli Family Funeral Home, 170 E. Broad Street, Nanticoke on Saturday, October 11th, from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m.


In lieu of flowers, donations in Joey’s memory can be made to www.childrenscancerfundny.org, an organization that supports pediatric oncology at Mari Fareri Children’s Hospital at West Chester where he received compassionate care throughout his journey.
