Stella V. Jones, 101, devoted and loving wife of the late Thomas R. Jones formerly of East Green Street, Nanticoke, PA and Plymouth for many years, passed away Saturday, November 21, 2020. Born on September 4,1919 in Plymouth Township she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Victoria Harris Potoski. Her husband Thomas passed away in 1995. She was the last member of her immediate family being preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters. Surviving are nieces and nephews including Gloria Wozniak, (late Ronald) of West Seneca, NY, with whom she resided for the past 2 ½ years; great niece, Lisa Cauley (Patrick) of Orchard Park, NY. She attended the former Harter High School, West Nanticoke. Early in life she was employed doing housekeeping, later worked in Cigar plants at Consolidated Cigar, Wilkes-Barre, General Cigar, Nanticoke and American Tobacco, Mountain Top. She was last employed at Plymouth Dress Company in Plymouth for 20 years until retiring and was a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union and an active member of VFW Post Auxiliary, Plymouth for thirty years. Stella was an active member of St. Faustina Kowalska Parish, Nanticoke where she was on the financial committee; prior to the consolidation of parishes, she had been a member of former St. Francis of Assisi Church, its Altar and Rosary Society and the financial committee counting money. Stella donated much of her time to St. Francis church and rectory and was very devoted to the Blessed Mother taking her fresh flowers every week. She also had both the Blessed Mother and St. Joseph statues refurbished and was the last person to turn the key to lock the door at St. Francis Church at its closing. Following the closing of St. Francis Church, Stella was given the Blessed Mother statue which is still in her possession. She continued to adorn it with fresh flowers each week and surrounded it by the many, many angels she had collected. Stella will be remembered for having a big heart, and being a loving, caring and generous person. She not only helped her family and friends, but strangers. In her lifetime Stella always had a love for children and a smile for everyone. She was truly loved and will be sadly missed.
