Irene M. Johns, 93, formerly of Blackman Street, Wilkes-Barre passed away Sunday, January 3, 2021 at Guardian Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Sheatown, where she was a patient since July.
Born April 30, 1927 in Wilkes-Barre, she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Mamie (Borum) Baluthey.
She married Thomas Johns on November 12, 1945 and together shared over 30 years of marriage until his passing on July 15,1976.
A homemaker for most of her life, she loved all sports and especially the Pittsburgh Steelers. She also enjoyed working at the Red Barons stadium as well as the arena. She was a member of the Wyoming Valley Presbyterian Church, Wilkes-Barre.
In addition to her husband, Thomas, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Carol Johns on February 22, 2019 and a brother, Walter Baluthey in 1985.
She is survived by her daughters, Cherie Weiss and husband, John, and Candace Smith and husband, Dave; granddaughters, Mindy Stevens and husband, Walter and Amanda Smith; and great-granddaughters, Emma and Haley Stevens, who she adored and loved watching them grow.
A private funeral service will be held from Davis-Dinelli Funeral Home, 170 E. Broad Street, Nanticoke with the Rev. Adam Demetros, her pastor, officiating.
Interment will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Hanover Township.
There will be no public viewing or calling hours.
