Joan Gashi, 88, of Nanticoke, passed away Thursday, February 18, 2021 at her home following an illness. Born and raised in Blandinsville, Illinois, she was a daughter of the late John and Alice (Foster) Akers. She was a graduate of Blandinsville High School, class of 1950. She was married to Albert L. Gashi until his passing on February 17, 2003. Formerly of Broadway and Berwick, Joan and Albert also had lived in Kissimmee Florida for fifteen years, before returning to the area to live in Nanticoke. She attended Nebo Baptist Church in Nanticoke. Joan was very content being a housewife and caring for her home and family and loved cooking and baking. In addition to her husband, Albert, she was preceded in death by a brother, John Akers and sisters, Doris Ridgeway and Alice Sheffler, all of Illinois. Surviving are her children, Wanda Haggerty and husband, Frank of Myrtle Beach, SC, Joyce Rae Emel and husband, Terry of Glen Lyon and Charles Franklin of Berwick; step daughter, Evelyn Gashi of Centermoreland; step son, Albert J. Gashi and wife, Lori of Bloomingdale; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a brother, Roy Akers and wife, Phyllis of Illinois; step sister, Cathy West and husband Karre of Canton, MO and numerous nieces and nephews. Viewing and visitation hours will be Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Davis-Dinelli Funeral Home, 170 E. Broad Street, Nanticoke. The family will have a private funeral service with the Rev. Timothy G. Hall, pastor of Nebo Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in Nanticoke Cemetery.
