Irene Hvozda, 93, of Nanticoke, passed away Friday, October 22nd 2021, a patient at Allied Services, Meade Street, Wilkes-Barre. Born September 26, 1928 in Nanticoke she was a daughter of the late Stanley and Anna (Lojaski) Frankowski. She married Michael Hvozda on September 17, 1949 shared 64 years of marriage until his passing on February 10, 2014. Irene was employed for forty years as a seamstress in the local garment industry and later assisted her daughter, Donna at Shelley’s Pizza, Wilkes-Barre. She was a life-long member of Holy Transfiguration of Our Lord Ukrainian Catholic Church, Hanover section of Nanticoke and active in the Mother’s Group, Pierogi ladies and cleaning of the church. In addition to her husband Michael, she was preceded in death by brothers, Bernard and Stanley Frankowski and a sister, Adeline Baranowski. Surviving are her daughters, Mary Ann Jarolen of Nanticoke and Donna Davis of Plymouth; grandchildren, Jennifer Jones (Thomas), Shelley Davis Jr. (Beth) and Michalene Davis (Kiel Swartwood); a great granddaughter, Faith Montana Davis; a sister, Henrietta Golaszewski of Taylor, MI; a sister-in-law, Maria Frankowski of Texas as well as nieces and nephews. Funeral Liturgy will be 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Holy Transfiguration of Our Lord Ukrainian Catholic Church, 240 Center Street, Hanover section of Nanticoke with the Rev. Roman Petryshak, officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery, Nanticoke. Viewing and visitation will be Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.
