Mary E. Smith Cheskiewitz Ellsworth, 90, formerly of Kingston, passed away Tuesday, March 8, 2022, at Hampton House Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. She was born and raised in Franklin Township, the daughter of the late James and Sarah (Pearson) Smith. Mary worked for the former Consolidated Cigar Company, Kingston, before starting a long career as a caregiver in home health. She was devoted to helping the many people she served over the years, as well as raising her family. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Albert Cheskiewitz; a son Albert Jr.; granddaughters, Charlotte Cheskiewitz and Nicole Shotwell; brothers, James and William Smith; and her second husband, Glen Ellsworth. Surviving are her daughters, Jane Cavill and husband, Jerry of Dallas; Catherine Whitman and husband, Edward of Tilbury Terrace, West Nanticoke; Carol Riley and husband, Jerry of White Haven and Tammy Zimmerman and husband, Eric of Dallas; daughter-in-law, Kathy; fifteen grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren; goddaughters, Maria Darbenzio and Sharon Hartshorn; as well as nieces and nephews. Mary’s family extend their sincere thanks and appreciation to the staff at Hampton House, and Hospice of the Sacred Heart for the wonderful care and comfort they provided. A Celebration of Life will be Saturday, March 26th at 4 p.m. at Luzerne United Methodist Church, 446 Bennett Street, Luzerne with Lucy Obrzut, pastoral leader, officiating. Those attending are asked to wear something blue, Mary’s favorite color. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution in Mary’s memory to Hospice of the Sacred Heart, or the American Cancer Society.
