Ruth H. Oltra, 91, former long-time resident of East Church Street, Nanticoke, passed away Wednesday, June 8, 2022 at Riverstreet Manor, Wilkes-Barre where she was a resident for the past two years. Born March 17, 1931 in Nanticoke, she was a daughter of the late William and Mary (Wojciechowski) Vincent. She graduated from Nanticoke High School, class of 1949 and in early years worked at the former General Cigar Mill, Nanticoke. She and her late husband, Edwin, owned and operated Oltra’s Hoagie shop, serving the community for thirty-five years, having begun ownership in June 1972. Ruth was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Nanticoke. Her husband Edwin passed away on December 12, 2013. She was also preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Samantha Marshallick; a son-in-law, Lloyd Gabb; brothers, Robert, William and Jack Vincent; and a sister, Mary Makos. She will be deeply missed by her five children; Karen Higgins (Robert), Sheatown; Sherri Gabb (fiancé, Jeff Seiwell), Pittston, Robert Oltra (Karen), Alden; Edwin Oltra (Janice), Sweet Valley; and Mark Oltra (Karen), Wilkes-Barre; nine grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; a sister, Carol Kirschner, Nanticoke; as well as several nieces and nephews. Ruth’s family would like to send a special thank you to the caregivers and staff at Riverstreet Manor. The kindness and compassion they showed towards Ruth is truly appreciated. Private services will be held from Davis-Dinelli Funeral Home, Nanticoke, with Pastor Robin Williams, of First Presbyterian Church of Nanticoke, officiating. Entombment will be in Chapel Lawn Memorial Park, Dallas. There will be no public viewing or calling hours.
