Henry R. Vitz, 81, of Scranton, formerly of Tunkhannock, passed away Monday, July 25th, 2022 at Geisinger Community Medical Center, Scranton. Henry lived in Nanticoke in his earlier years and later in the Tunkhannock area for over 20 years, before moving to Scranton.
He served his country with the Army from January 1958 until his honorable discharge in April, 1962. Prior to retiring, he was employed as a carpenter in the construction field.
In his spare time, he was an avid fisherman. Henry loved children and was Santa Clause at Boscov’s in Wilkes-Barre and Steamtown Mall in Scranton for many years; He enjoyed serving as a volunteer at the St. Francis Kitchen in Scranton. He loved music as an amateur singer, playing the guitar and piano, and will also be remembered as a dog lover.
Surviving are his sons, John Vitz, of Nanticoke and Jeff Vitz, of Hunlock Creek; a granddaughter, Kristen Emick; and a great-grandson, Weston Emick; a brother, Chester Vitz, and a sister, Carol Park, both of Nanticoke; as well as nieces and nephews.
His family will honor him privately. There will be no public viewing or calling hours.
