Please share a memory of Robert to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the quiet and peaceful passing of Robert Joseph Brezinski, age 74, of Nanticoke on Tuesday, February 7th, 2023, at Allied Hospice in Wilkes-Barre. Born December 27th, 1948, he was the oldest of Henry and Eleanor Rushin Brezinski's 5 children. A lifelong resident of Nanticoke, Bob grew up in Honey Pot. For over 30 years he and his brother Ronnie worked at Hank & Tom's Garage in Nanticoke which was owned and operated by their father and their Uncle Tommy Baron. After graduating from Nanticoke High School 'Class Of 1966' he joined the United States Navy in 1967 and was honorably discharged in 1971. During his time in the service, he proudly worked as a Shipfitter 2 on the USS Spear, the USS Fulton and the USS Gilmore as well as the US Navy's first Nuclear Submarine, The Nautilus. After discharge he attended college classes in Williamsport where he received his degree in Auto Mechanics. In 1973 he married his sweetheart Gloria Jean Grilly and in 1975 their daughter Rachel Ellen was born. He went on to work as a welder at Air Products in Hanover Township, and coached his daughter's softball team before being hired in 1983 as a Corrections Officer at the State Correctional Institute in Dallas PA. For the next 23 years he was well respected and known to be a firm but fair officer, because of this, he made many friends (including his long- time coworker on E Block and best friend John Eichman currently of Erie) and earned the rank of Lieutenant. Bob enjoyed cars, skiing, kayaking, watching the weather channels and spending time with his large group of loving family and friends. Whether it be a planned vacation or he woke up in the morning and randomly announced "Pack your bags we're going for a ride" which almost always resulted in a trip across the state or sometimes even across the country, he loved traveling with his family. After his retirement from SCID in 2007, if he wasn't off traveling, he could be found every morning exercising at the gym, puttering around the yard throughout the day, chatting with neighbors and passersby or sitting on the porch reading his many newspapers while enjoying a cigar. Above all, his most favorite thing to do was spending time with his granddaughter Amanda who was the absolute joy of his life and whom he loved dearly. His illness was short and his passing has left many people with deep sadness. Whether you knew him as Robert, Bob, Bobby, Officer Bob, Ski, Uncle Bobby, Gloria's husband, Rachel's Dad or Amanda's Poppy, he will forever be fondly remembered for his huge genuine smile, being a loving and wonderful son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and loyal friend to countless others. He truly was one of the nicest and most pleasant people you could ever meet. Bobby was welcomed into heaven by his parents, his brother, Ronald Stanley Brezinski; in-laws, Joe and Mildred Taylor Grilly; maternal grandparents, Mary and Joseph Rushin; paternal grandparents, Stanley Brezinski, and Sophie Danielowicz and her husband, Louis; numerous aunts and uncles; a great-nephew, Jaxon Eckrote; as well as his lifelong friends, Richard Kinder and Andrew Baron Jr. In addition to his wife Gloria Brezinski, his daughter Rachel Brezinski Pettit and granddaughter Amanda Marie Kamowski, he is survived by his sister-in-law, Leslie Kinder Brezinski; his sisters Debbie Goodman, Judy Shales, and Trisha Bowalick and her husband, Greg, all of Nanticoke; his nieces and nephews, Kyle Bowalick, Lauren Bowalick Domzalski and her husband, Sean; Kaitlin Bowalick Ravert and her husband, Wesley; Tracy Goodman Gonda; Zachary Shales and his wife, Hanna, all of Nanticoke; Kara Brezinski Clark and her husband, Sean of Kingston; and Kristen Brezinski Bene and her husband, Nick of Fort Collins, Colorado. Great nieces and nephews Ella Domzalski, Carter Cole, and Trever Lee Ravert, Lodi and Watson Bene, Max Gordon, and Owen, Dean, Grant, Rose, and Molly Clark. A Celebration of Bob's life will be held on Friday June 30th, 2023 which would have been his & Gloria's 50th wedding anniversary. On this day family and friends will gather at Dinelli Family Funeral Home (formerly Davis Funeral Home) at 170 E. Broad St, Nanticoke for visitation from 8:30 a.m. until transferal to the church at 10:30 a.m. We will then proceed to the Funeral Mass which will be held at 11 a.m. at St. Faustina Parish (formerly Holy Trinity Church) where he was baptized and was a lifelong member, followed by the interment at Holy Trinity Cemetery in Sheatown, with military honors. All are invited for a luncheon at the R Bar, where we can all laugh and enjoy each other's company while we share stories and fond memories of the man who meant so much to us, because that's the way he would want it to be. Our family would like to thank all of our friends and staff at Geisinger Wyoming Valley, the amazing staff at Allied Hospice and most of all, all of our wonderful friends and family who have been so caring and supportive, helping us through this heartbreaking time in our lives. In lieu of flowers, our family asks that you make a donation in Bobby's name to Valley With A Heart, 7 Alden Road, Nanticoke PA. (570) 735-5333 / (570) 763-9530.
