Douglas A. Whitesell, 66, of Hunlock Creek, passed away unexpectedly, Monday, March 27, 2023 at his home. He was a son of the late Damon H. and Jean Cumberland Whitesell. Doug graduated from Northwest Area High School, class of 1975 and continued his education at Williamsport Area Community College, earning an associate’s degree in Carpentry. He was a self employed carpenter until retiring in 2019. In his younger years Doug enjoyed playing softball and was a white water rafting guide. Doug loved spending time with his family, being in the outdoors and hunting. He was a member of Hunter Rest, Rod and Gun Club in Nordmont, as well as the Hunlock Creek Rod and Gun Club near Slate Run. Doug also loved canoeing on the Susquehanna River, leading the family on hikes and hosting great parties at his home. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Damon H. Whitesell II on November 23, 2021. He will be missed by his son, Jamison (JD) Whitesell and wife, Kristen, Pennsburg; his daughter, Rachel Whitesell and her partner, Jakob Jola, Shickshinny; grandchildren, Lena and Tate Whitesell; his former wife, Susan Aagaard Whitesell, Dallas; sister-in-law, Bridget Whitesell, Hunlock Creek; as well as nieces, nephews and cousins. A Memorial Service will be held 11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 15, 2023 from Dinelli Family Funeral Home, 170 East Broad Street, Nanticoke, with the Rev. James McGee, pastor of Hunlock Creek United Methodist Church, officiating. Friends may call for visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
