Obituary of Francis Sokolowski

Francis A. (Babe) Sokolowski, 90, of Nanticoke passed away Wednesday evening, April 26, 2023 at Hampton House, Hanover Township, where he was a patient for twelve days.
Born August 22, 1932 in Nanticoke, he was a son of the late Leon and Mary Sobieski Sokolowski. He graduated from Nanticoke High School in 1950 and enlisted with the Air Force. A veteran of the Korean War, he served four years and was honorably discharged in July, 1954. He was awarded the Korean Service, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and Good Conduct Medals.
In the early 1960’s Francis began employment at Olmstead Air Force Depot, Middletown, working there for four years, followed by Tobyhanna Army Depot for eleven years. He was last employed at Letterkenny Army Depot, Chambersburg for twelve years. He retired in 1988 and returned to live in Nanticoke.
He was a member of St. Faustina Kowalska Parish, Nanticoke and previously Holy Trinity Church and served as an usher; American Legion Post 655, Larksville; VFW Post 283, Kingston; and AMVETS Post 59 Hanover Township.
He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Josephine Alleman Prushinski on May 25, 1994; and siblings, Irene Martin, Edward Sokoloski, Dolores Zdybel, Leon Sokoloski, and John Sokolowski.
Francis is survived by a brother, Daniel Sokolowski and wife, Phyllis, Nanticoke; stepdaughters, Monica Wanchisen and husband, Peter; and Ellen Waiter, and husband (Joseph), both of Nanticoke; step grandchildren, Eric Wanchisen (Kelly), Aaron Wanchisen (Donna); Rebecca Mendrzycki (Thomas); and Douglas Waiter (Harold Shultz); six step great-grandchildren; as well as nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will begin 10:30 a.m. Tuesday from Dinelli Family Funeral Home, 170 E. Broad Street, Nanticoke with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Faustina Kowalska Parish, 520 S. Hanover Street, Nanticoke.
Viewing and Visitation will be at the funeral home Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until transferal to the church.
Private interment will be in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Sheatown.
