Elaine L. Novakowski, 91, of Wanamie, passed away unexpectedly Friday, September 9, 2023 at the emergency room at Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre. Born December 27, 1931 in Glen Lyon, she was a daughter of the late Stanley and Frances Savinski Makowski. Elaine graduated from Newport Township High School in 1949 and was employed by Jerome’s Bakery, Nanticoke. After staying home to raise her children, Thomas and Paula Ann, she returned back to work as cafeteria manager at Greater Nanticoke Area School for thirty years. She retired in 2002. She was a member of Holy Spirit Parish, Glen Lyon. Elaine will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and grandma. She especially loved and enjoyed her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of forty-seven years, Henry B. Novakowski on September 22, 2003; her sisters, Eleanore Bonkiewicz and Dorothy Staskiel; and a brother, Stanley Makowski. Surviving are a son, Thomas Novakowski and wife, Holly, Wanamie; a daughter, Paula Ann Novakowski and husband, Michael Saharko, Flemington, NJ; grandchildren, Bradley and Cassandra Novakowski, Wanamie; Shawn Saharko and wife, Julie, Richmond, VA; and Matthew Saharko, New Jersey. A Blessing Service will be held at noon Wednesday from Dinelli Family Funeral Home, 170 E. Broad Street, Nanticoke. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Wanamie. Viewing and visitation hours will be from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Wednesday at the funeral home.
