Obituary of Julie Golanoski
Please share a memory of Julie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Julia S. Testaguzza Golanoski entered into God’s eternal care on October 30, 2023.
Julie was the daughter of Dominic and Maria Testaguzza. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Casimer, and her two sisters, Elen and Louise and brother Louis.
Julie is survived by her daughter Donna Gorka, son Mark Golanoski and his wife, Karen. Her family includes six grandchildren: Meredith Rehrer and her husband Josh, Keith Gorka, Tesia Jones and her husband Cannon, Alison Golanoski and her husband Ian Logan, John Golanoski, Michael Redding and his wife Courtney, and six great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Marino Testaguzza. In addition, Julie was very close to extended family members Dr. Gerald Bau, Brenda Sokolowski, Luanne Thorman, Delores Fields, Roger Mortlock and Annette Snyder.
Julie was born in Wanamie, Newport Twp., August 19, 1924. She graduated from Nanticoke High School, class of 1942. She attended Luzerne County Community College, Wilkes College and graduated from the Wilkes-Barre School of Practical Nursing. She worked at Retreat State Hospital, numerous nursing homes and private duty in-home settings. For more than 35 years Julie provided exceptional care to her patients.
Julie was a life-long member of St. Francis of Assisi parish, and currently St. Faustina parish in Nanticoke where she was active in the Alter and Rosary Society, taught CCD classes and cooked for the annual church spaghetti supper for more than 50 years. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother, a Red Cross volunteer, a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, and was an active member of her class reunion committees throughout the years.
As a hobby Julie began writing, which resulted in the publishing of her book “Julie’s Journal”, a joyful look at her family. The publisher requested a sequel but she had other projects in mind, including researching and recording her family’s genealogy. Julie was an excellent cook and spent a lot of time teaching her children and her grandchildren many of her recipes and kitchen secrets.
Julie was a pious woman who believed in the power of prayer. She corresponded with several Popes and American Presidents. In difficult times she encouraged these world leaders and often received written appreciation from them. She personally sought out the intercession of the Blessed Mother on many occasions and encouraged others to do so.
