Please share a memory of Lois to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Lois E. Davis, a beloved member of the Mountain Top community, passed away on Monday, January 22, 2024. She was 91 years old and died peacefully at her home, surrounded by her loving family.
After sharing thirty-nine years of marriage, her husband John L. (Jack) Davis preceded her in death on February 17, 1989.
Born on January 31, 1932, in Nanticoke, she was the daughter of David and Jennie Cybulski Hampton.
Lois was a proud graduate of Nanticoke High School, class of 1949. Throughout her life, she pursued various occupations, including employment at General Cigar in Nanticoke and American Cigar in Mountain Top. Lois was a long-time resident of Mountain Top and spent many fulfilling years running her own ceramics shop. She was known to have a green thumb and took great pleasure in caring for her home and garden.
Above all, Lois was a dedicated caregiver for her son, David, who required special attention and care. This led her to work as a driver for the Luzerne Intermediate Unit, where she was responsible for safely transporting special education students to and from school. Lois was highly respected by her colleagues and retired after many years of devoted service.
She was a dedicated and enthusiastic member of Christ United Methodist Church, located in the scenic Mountain Top region. Her commitment to the church was evident through her active participation in various committees such as the Pastor-Parish Committee, Sunshine Circle, Friendship Circle, and Tuesday Morning Quilters. Her passion for quilting was particularly evident as she spent many Tuesday mornings quilting with fellow church members.
Lois was a true embodiment of kindness and generosity. Her passion for camping, baking, crafting, and hosting friends and family was truly inspiring. Her parties were always unforgettable, and her unwavering commitment to helping veterans is a testament to her selflessness. Lois and her husband went above and beyond to provide these brave men and women with a warm meal and a safe place to rest. Their dedication to serving those who served our country is a reminder to us all that small acts of kindness can go a long way.
She volunteered with multiple organizations, including the American Blind Association, which provided her continuous access to support our local community, especially the kids she loved to see and spend time with.
Lois's family would like to express their gratitude to Allied Hospice for the care and Second Family Memory Care for the compassion and kindness they extended to their mother, who was affectionately known as "Mam" by her grandchildren and those that knew her best. She enjoyed spending time with the ladies at Second Family Memory Care.
In addition to her husband, Jack, Lois was preceded in death by her son, John (Jack) Davis.
Surviving are her children, Cindy Donlin of Nanticoke, David Davis of Mountain Top, Carole Alexander (Michael) of Washington Crossing; grandchildren, Stephen Donlin (Natasha), Jennie Donlin, Jacqueline Alexander, Michael Alexander II, and Nicki Simpson; great-grandchildren Lucas and Kaleb Pekar; a brother Delbert Hampton; as well as nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind Ellie Sugalski, her dear friend of over sixty years.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, at Christ United Methodist Church, 175 S. Main Road, Mountain Top, with the Rev. J.P. Bohanan, her pastor, officiating.
Family and friends may call for viewing and visitation hours from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday from Dinelli Family Funeral Home, 170 E. Broad Street, Nanticoke, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the church.
Interment will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Hanover Township.
