Mitchell M. Furtak, 67, of Wapwallopen, passed away Wednesday, March 6, 2024, at PAM Health Specialty Hospital of Wilkes-Barre. Born January 30, 1957, in Fair Lawn NJ, he was the son of the late Michael and Joan Prushinski Furtak. Mitchell was a 1975 graduate of Fair Lawn High School. Following graduation, he began his career working for A&P, later Grand Union grocery store, where he worked for 17 years. He later relocated to Pennsylvania. He is survived by several cousins and many friends. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at Commonwealth Health Wilkes-Barre General Hospital and the PAM Health Specialty Hospital of Wilkes-Barre for showing great compassion and extending the courtesy of daily communications on his condition. Mitchell made the decision to be an organ donor. Through the Gift of Life donor program, his donations will help others in their time of need and rehabilitation. A blessing service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, March 14th at Dinelli Family Funeral Home, 170 E. Broad Street, Nanticoke. Friends and family may call for visitation from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Entombment in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hanover Township will be privately held at a later date.
