John F. Bogart, 73, former long-time resident of Hanover Township, passed away Saturday, March 23, 2024 at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center after suffering a stroke. He was a resident at Riverview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, for the past seven years. Born in Hanover Township September 20, 1950, he was the son of the late Joseph and Elizabeth Nicholls Stankevich. John was a 1970 graduate of G.A.R. Memorial High School. He worked at many different jobs, the longest, being Benco Dental, where he worked for twenty-two years. He took a course and was proudly CPR certified. He enjoyed listening to country music, Trans-Siberian Orchestra, going to the circus and fishing. John loved bowling; where he was coach of the cruisers bowling team. He looked forward to going to lunch or out for the day with close friend Walter Poplawski. Known as the mayor of the nursing home, he loved playing bingo and numerous other games with friend, Elaine. John was such a special person, who always had a smile on his face. He will be sadly missed. Surviving are his sisters, Anna Meeker, and Doris Griffiths and her husband, Jack Griffiths Jr.; nieces and nephews, David Meeker and his wife, Lisa, Scott Meeker and his wife, Angie, Jennifer Meeker and her partner, Gene, Joe Meeker and his partner, Cindy, Brian Meeker and his partner, Gabby, Sarah Meierhofer and her wife, Terri, Gregory Griffiths and his wife, Erin; numerous great nieces and nephews; and many friends. A funeral service will be held 7 p.m. Wednesday from Dinelli Family Funeral Home, 170 E. Broad Street, Nanticoke. His brother-in-law, Rev. Jack Griffiths Jr., pastor of Hanover Green Chapel and First Welsh Presbyterian Church, Edwardsville, will be the officiant. Family and friends may call for viewing and visitation hours Wednesday from 5 p.m. until the time of the service. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the nurses in the Geisinger ICU unit as well as the hospice staff for all the care they gave Johnny. They would also like to thank Benco Dental for treating John so wonderfully during the years of his employment. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution in his memory to your favorite charity.
