Obituary of Roger C. Noss Sr.

Roger C. Noss Sr., 77, of Shickshinny, went home to be with his Lord and Savior early Wednesday morning, May 29, 2024, a patient at the VA medical Center, Plains Township.
A lifelong resident of Shickshinny, he was born April 30, 1947, a son of the late Harry and Geraldine Potoeski Noss. Roger attended the Northwest Area Schools and proudly served his country with the U.S. Marine Corps. in Vietnam. He received the Rifle Marksman Badge, National Defense Service Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal with a bronze star. He attained the rank of Lance Corporal and was honorably discharged in August 1971. Following his active service, he also served with the National Guard for 10 years.
Roger was employed in the warehouse at Luzerne Outerwear and worked for Poleron before beginning a long career as a correctional officer at State Correctional Institute, Dallas. He retired after 25 years of service.
He was a member of First Independent Church of Nanticoke, and was previously a member of Bible Baptist Church, Shickshinny for many years. He belonged to American Legion Post #495, Shickshinny. He liked watching westerns and enjoyed working in his garden.
He was the last member of his immediate family, being preceded in death by his siblings, Harry Noss Jr., Arlene Welch, Betty Walp, Russell Noss, Richard Noss, Art Noss and Barbara Nethercott.
Surviving is his wife of 52 years, the former Nora Deliman; sons, the Rev. Roger C. Noss Jr. and his wife, Penelope, of Bloomsburg; and John Noss and his wife, Amy, of Shickshinny; granddaughters, Abaigael Noss, Katharine Noss, Taylor Noss and Trisha Fasnacht; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at First Independent Church of Nanticoke, 267 E. Main Street, Nanticoke, with his son, the Rev. Roger C. Noss Jr., officiating.
Family and friends may call for viewing and visitation hours at the church from 11 a.m. until the time of the service Saturday.
Interment with military honors will be in Sorber Cemetery, Reyburn.
