Obituary of Dena M. Simone

Dena M. Simone, 91, of Nanticoke passed away early Sunday morning, August 4, 2024 at home surrounded by her loving family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph M. Simone Sr. with whom she shared nearly 66 years of marriage.
Born March 25, 1933, she was a daughter of the late Luigi and Delia Angeli Tomassini. Raised in Mocanaqua, she graduated from Shickshinny High School. Dena was a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union and was employed in the local garment industry for 26 years. She later managed the Mari-Anna Card and Gift Shoppe on Market Street in Nanticoke for 25 years until retiring.
She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish, Nanticoke for most of her life and later St. Faustina Kowalska Parish following the consolidation of the parishes. She was also a member of the Luigi Micocci Lodge, Order Sons of Italy in America, Nanticoke.
Dena was a faith-filled woman with a generous and hospitable heart. She always had her family at the center of her thoughts and prayers. In her free time, Dena's hobbies include crafting, needle point, cooking, board games, playing cards, and tending to her garden.
In addition to her husband, Joe, she was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Chief Petty Officer Peter Namowicz; and a sister, Inez Cresci.
Surviving are children, Denise Namowicz, and Joseph Simone Jr., both of Nanticoke; grandchildren, Maria (Josh), DeAnna (Timothy), and Luisa and Michael of Mascalucia, Sicily; great grandchildren, Louis, Dean, Luke, Micah, and Damien; sisters, Clara Federici of Mocanaqua, and Theresa Wojcik of Wanamie; and several nieces and nephews including goddaughter, Bonita Federici. The family would like to express their love and sincere gratitude to Amanda who provided such wonderful care to Dena over the last few years.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Faustina Kowalska parish, 520 S. Hanover Street, Nanticoke. Those attending the Mass are asked to go directly to the church on Saturday morning.
Honoring Dena’s wishes, there will be no public viewing or calling hours. Entombment will be private.
Arrangements are in the care of Dinelli Family Funeral Home, 170 E. Broad Street, Nanticoke.
