Donald L. Werts, 83, of Nanticoke, passed away peacefully on August 25, 2024. Born on July 8, 1941, in Shickshinny, Don grew up surrounded by the natural beauty of the countryside he so dearly loved. He cherished his childhood memories of playing in the woods and often shared stories of those simpler times during his many drives through the country. Don dedicated much of his life to his work at Certainteed, where he was a proud member of Union Local 365 UAW. He retired in June 2006, leaving behind a legacy of camaraderie, storytelling, and a deep appreciation for his co-workers. His time there was filled with laughter and friendships that he valued immensely. He was the beloved son of the late Ambrose and Edna Werts (nee Baer). He was preceded in death by his cherished wife, Lorine Werts (nee Ricko), his brother Paul Werts, sisters Alda Hyder, Loretta Jones, Ruth Rowe, and Dorothy Wildoner, as well as his great-grandsons Braydon Werts and Carson Martini-Splain. Don leaves behind a loving family to carry on his memory: his son, Donald J. Werts, and wife Billie; daughters, Terri Hunsinger and husband Rick, Debra Quoos and husband Howard, and Donna and her domestic partner Joseph Karavis. Don is also survived by his sisters Ada Reichert, and Marilyn James and husband Jack. He was a proud grandfather to seven grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, great-grandfather to six great-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren. Don's legacy is one of love, hard work, and deep connections with those he held dear. He will be profoundly missed by all who knew him. There will be no public calling hours. Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family with interment in St. Joseph’s Slovak Catholic Cemetery, Nanticoke. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations made to the MOA Rx Fund, 382 Pierce Street, Kingston, PA 18704. Please be sure to include a note with your name, phone number and address for an acknowledgement card. If making a donation in memory of Don, please be sure to also include his information so they can send his family a card letting them know you made a donation in his memory.
