James C. Jones, 93, a native of Newport Township, and long time resident of Connecticut died Monday, September 2, 2024.
Born in Nanticoke, January 3, 1931, he was a son of the late William Rinehamer and Harriet Jones Rinehamer.
James was a 1948 graduate of Newport Township High School. He was inducted into the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, and proudly served as a medic with the 279th Station Hospital in Berlin, Germany. He attained the rank of Specialist third class and received the National Defense Service Medal; Good Conduct Medal; and Army Occupation Medal (Germany).
Following his military service, he worked in the mines for three years. His long career within the hospital system included; the former Retreat State Hospital, Lyons Hospital in New Jersey, and finally the Connecticut Valley Hospital as an psychiatric aide, before retiring in 1991. James also was employed for a time at Pratt and Whitney in Connecticut.
Surviving are a sister, Barbara Fletcher (Merlyn); and a brother, Kenneth Rinehamer (Judith), all of Wanamie; nieces, Erin Fletcher, his caretaker and with whom he resided in Hunlock Township; and Kathleen Fletcher (David Dickshinski), Bethlehem; great nephews, David Burgess (Mikeal) and Sean Burgess (Rachael); a great-great nephew, Bjorn Burgess, and great-great niece, baby girl Burgess due in January; and very good friend, Donald Benesch, who helped care for him.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, September 21st, from Dinelli Family Funeral Home, 170 E. Broad Street, Nanticoke, with Chaplain Angela Gennaria, of Maylath Hospice, officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the U.S. Army.
Private interment will be in Newport Cemetery.
