Thelma E. Blockus, 94, life-long resident of the Sheatown section of Newport Township, passed away Tuesday, September 10, 2024 at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry (Hank) Blockus with whom she shared 43 years of marriage until his passing on December 22, 1994.
Born March 30, 1930 in Sheatown, she was a daughter of the late Lee and Elizabeth Gashowski Littleford. Thelma was a graduate of Newport Township High School, class of 1947 and in early years worked at General Cigar Company. She later was employed at RCA, Mountain Top for 28 years before retiring in 1990.
She was a member of St. Faustina Kowalska Parish, Nanticoke and previously Holy Child Church, Sheatown until the consolidation of the parishes. Thelma was also an active volunteer with the activities and fundraisers at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, Alden.
In addition to her parents and husband, Hank, she was preceded in death by her brother, Lee Littleford.
Surviving is her son, Bill Blockus, Sheatown; a daughter, Sue Smereski, Hunlock Creek grandchildren, Jennifer White (Jason), Jessica Homnick (Phil), Matthew Blockus (Annie Bonaface), and Katie Reddock (Matthew); five great grandchildren; sister, Elizabeth Matzoni (Dennis); and several nieces and nephews.
A private viewing with a Funeral Mass was held at St. Faustina Kowalska Parish.
Interment was in Holy Trintiy Cemetery, Sheatown.
Arrangements were in the care of Dinelli Family Funeral Home, 170 E. Broad Street, Nanticoke.
