Florence A. Brennan, 99, of McLean, VA, passed away Sunday January 5, 2025. Born January 27, 1925, in Nanticoke, she was a daughter of the late Zigmond and Josephine Savitski Dzwileski. Zigmond was well-known in Nanticoke having been the long-time President of local UMWA and then the City Sealer of Weights and Measures. Florence, the eldest of two daughters, was a graduate of Nanticoke High School and then graduated from a Wilkes Barre School of Business. In 1950, she wed James T. Brennan, Esq. of Scranton. Following James’ graduation from Yale, she moved with him to Washington D.C. where he began his careerat the Federal Communications Commission handling their appeals. The couple then moved to Arlington, VA where they raised two children, Stevenne and Brian. There, Florence also began working for the National Army Intelligence Agency at Arlington Hall Station as Chief Protocal Officer for the Agency’s General. She remainied in that postion until her retirement in the 1980s. Subsequently, she moved Mclean, VA, living very near her sister, Marian, and many beloved friends, including John (Jack) McMahon. Florence was a faithful member of St. John the Beloved Catholic Church in Mclean, VA,. She enjoyed traveling, especially overseas in Europe and to South Korea. Following her retirement, she often spent summers in Ocean City, MD and continued to travel, visiting Mexico and the Carribean islands. She loved to cook, garden and entertain her family and many friends. In addition to her parents, Florence was preceded in death by her husband, James T. Brennan; her beloved children, son, Brian A. Brennan; and her daughter, Stevenne A. Brennan; and her dear sister, Marian T. Adams. She will be deeply missed by her sole niece, Leslie Adams Berich, along with her husband, Watson, both currently of Red Bank, NJ; and her great niece, Emily Adams Berich-Anastasio of Baltimore, MD. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m., Friday, January 24th at St. Faustina Kowalska Parish 520 S. Hanover Street, Nanticoke. Those attending the funeral are asked to go directly to the church. A private Interment will directly follow the mass at the Hendler family plot, St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hanover Township. Arrangements are in the care of Dinelli Family Funeral Home, 170 East Broad Street Nanticoke, PA 18634.
