Obituary of Mildred Dzuris

Please share a memory of Mildred to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Mildred Dzuris, lifelong resident of East Church Street, Nanticoke passed away early Thursday morning, December 17, 2020. Her wish was to leave this earth in the same house that she came into it in, and she was fortunate to have done that surrounded by the love of her caregivers who came to know her and cherish her. She was a daughter of the late George and Edith (Meado) Dzuris. Mildred was a graduate of Nanticoke High School and was class Valedictorian. She continued her education, graduating from Bloomsburg State Teachers College and earned a Master’s degree from University of Scranton. She had a career of over fifty years as a teacher and Guidance Counselor at Northwest Area School District, where she mentored hundreds of students and directed numerous theater productions. By all accounts, Mil was a true “one of a kind”. Never missing a chance to honor a birthday, anniversary, or holiday with a card, gift or phone call. She will be remembered by all who knew her as an example of unselfish kindness and love. She enjoyed spending time with her many nieces and nephews, gardening, baking, going to see Broadway shows, babysitting, and especially treating them to dinners any chance she got. She imbued us all with a sense of history by telling us stories of her childhood and family lore. Mildred was a lifelong member of St. John’s Slovak Lutheran Church and served in almost every capacity, even providing the coffee hour goodies until the last weeks of her life. She was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Daniel Walting DDS She is survived by her sister, Mrs. Daniel (Lois) Walting of Nanticoke; nieces, Lynn Brinker DMD and husband, Richard Brinker DMD, of Mountain Top, Lauri Kapusta and husband, Gary Kapusta of Roswell, GA, and Lisa Elder DDS and husband Douglas Elder of Lincoln, MA; a nephew, Daniel Walting II DMD and wife, Emily Walting of Nanticoke; great nieces and nephews, Alyson Brinker MD, Richard Brinker, Christina Kapusta and husband, Ceasare Gallo, Andrew Kapusta and wife, Taylor Kapusta, Garrett Kapusta and Harrison, Isaac, Eva and Anya Elder, and Madeleine, Margaret and Meredith Walting and great-great nephews, Gabriel and Leonardo Gallo. You will be missed Mimi. As your sister said it best, you were “amazing”. The family will have private services at this time and will plan a celebration of her life at a later date. There will be no public viewing or calling hours. Interment will be in Nanticoke Cemetery.

Services will be private for the family at this time. A public celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
