Obituary of Daniel Kopko

Daniel A. Kopko, 89, passed away Tuesday, January 3, 2023 a patient at WellSpan York Hospital in York, PA. He was a life-long resident of Nanticoke until moving to Lebanon to live with his daughter, Carol, in October. He was married to the former Dolores Broglia for 32 years until her passing on October 30, 1991.
Born January 12, 1933, he was one of eleven children of the late Konstanty and Veronica Humicz Kopko.
Daniel graduated from Nanticoke High School and served with the U.S. Army during the end of Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged in 1957, attaining the rank of SP3. Prior to retiring, he was employed by Eberhard Faber, Mountain Top for 30 years until their closure. Daniel attended Luzerne County Community College, earned a certificate in Culinary Arts, and was employed as a baker for Insalaco’s in Dallas. He was a member of St. Faustina Kowalska Parish, Nanticoke and previously St. Francis of Assisi Parish until its closing.
Surviving are his daughters, Dr. Joan Wasilewski and husband, Thomas, of Clarks Summit; and Dr. Carol Sova and husband, Mark, of Lebanon; grandchildren, Rachel Edmondson and husband, Richard; Dr. Melissa Wasilewski and fiancé, Stephen Clark; Dr. Danielle Naegely and husband, Dr. James; Alexandra Cottle and husband, Daniel; and Elizabeth Sova; a great granddaughter, Ellie Naegely; sisters, Victoria Hillman and husband, Ralph; Dorothy Garavaglia and husband, Carl; a brother, John Kopko and wife, Connie, all of Nanticoke; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, Dolores, he was preceded by his brothers, Konstanty Jr., Casimir, and Walter Kopko; Chester Kopco; and Leon and Clem Kopko; as well as a sister, Florence Bukofski.
Daniel was a kind-hearted man with a giving nature and a joy for making everyone laugh. He touched many hearts of family members and friends alike.
Funeral services will begin 10:30 a.m. Saturday from Dinelli Family Funeral Home, 170 E. Broad Street, Nanticoke with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Faustina Kowalska Parish, 520 S. Hanover Street, Nanticoke with the Rev. Brian F. Van Fossen, his pastor, as celebrant.
Private interment will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Nanticoke.
Family and friends may call for viewing and visitation at the funeral home Saturday morning from 9 a.m. until transferal to the church.
